Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the good grounds for investment in Iran, calling on the Finnish investors to take the opportunity and work with the Iranian private sector.

In a meeting with Finland’s new ambassador to Tehran on Saturday, President Rouhani said there exist perfect opportunities for investment in Iran.

The Finnish entrepreneurs and investors can have an “active presence” in Iran, the president noted, stressing the need for the expansion of scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, the incoming envoy, Keijo Norvanto, hailed the growing ties between Tehran and Helsinkin in recent years, saying he is proud to serve in Iran.

The ambassador also called for efforts to implement the previous agreements between the Finnish and Iranian investors, business people and trade delegations.

Diplomatic and trade relations between Iran and European countries have improved greatly since the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), known as the JCPOA, came into force in January 2016.

In April, Secretary of State at Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs Peter Stenlund unveiled plans for the conclusion of an agreement with Iran on air transportation.

In October 2016, Finnish President Sauli Vainamo Niinisto paid an official visit to Iran with a ranking political and business delegation.
