Iran will continue allocating a subsidized exchange rate for medicines and has yet to take any new decision on the sector as it considers moves toward a single exchange rate, Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said on Monday.

Speaking at the 134th meeting of the Government-Private Sector Dialogue Council held at Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Madanizadeh said medicines would still receive foreign currency at 285,000 rials per dollar.

On wheat, he said decisions must be taken with particular care given its direct impact on household livelihoods, adding that related processes would be announced in due course.

“Ensuring people’s livelihoods is the government’s priority,” the minister said.

Madanizadeh also said a representative of the Iran Chamber of Commerce would be invited to participate in decision-making meetings on the issue, underscoring the role of the private sector in discussions over currency policy.
