Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone, which has loading/unloading capacity of 100 million tons, accounts for over 55% of Irans trade and 70% of transit.

Container loading and unloading in Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran stood at 267,702 TEUs during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21-April 20), showing an 11% rise compared with the similar period of last year, according to the manager of Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone.

“Exports through the port stood at 81,036 TEUs, indicating a 49% growth YOY,” Alireza Mohammadi Karajiran was also quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

The southern port has the capacity to handle 6.3 million TEUs per year, but once the port’s development projects are launched, the figure will rise to 8.5 TEUs per annum. 

A total of 5.52 million tons of commodities were transported via railroad to/from Shahid Rajaee Port in the southern Hormozgan Province in the last Iranian year (March 2020-21), registering a 3.72% increase compared with the year before.

The number of wagons carrying this volume of goods saw a year-on-year increase of 13.2%.

With 12 wharfs, Shahid Rajaee is Iran’s biggest container port, accounting for 90% of the country’s total container throughput.

Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee, which is located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province.
