Gholam Hossein Jamili, a board member of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), said Iran aims to focus on technical and technological cooperation with Finland.

Jamili, also the head of Iran-Finland Joint Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Jyrki Runola, an economic and international trade advisor at the Finnish embassy.

Referring to a recent meeting of Iranian economic activists with the Finnish ambassador in Tehran, Jamili regretted that despite Finland’s good share in international markets, the country has had an insignificant trade with Iran during the past ten years.

Many Iranian startups have been able to enter the international markets, he said, adding that Iran is eager to make use of the experiences of Finland which is one of the leading countries in the area of science-based technologies and startups.

Jamili referred to the establishment of Iran-Finland Joint Chamber of Commerce within the next few weeks, stressing the significance of making use of Finland’s capabilities in the economic and technological areas.

The Finnish side said for his part that there are good investment opportunities in Iran, urging the need to work together to identify such opportunities.

Runola however noted that what attracts the Finnish economic operators to the Iranian market will be the ways and methods for cooperation.

Iran-Finland Joint Chamber of Commerce due to open within few weeks

During a meeting with Finnish ambassador to Tehran Keijo Norvanto on August 2, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce Industries, Mines and Agriculture Gholam Hossein Shafei said that Iran-Finland Joint Chamber of Commerce is due to open within the next few weeks.

He said that Finland is a European country with high economic growth and high level of public welfare, noting that it is of special importance for Iran to make use of the experiences of this country.

Referring to Iran’s natural geographical position and widespread drought, Shafei said that Iran is eager to use Finland's experiences in the aquaculture, marine industries, as well as the proper use of water with new methods.

He pointed to the negative impact of the US unilateral sanctions on Iranian economy, saying the sanctions caused a $30 billion fall in trade interactions between Iran and the European Union, something that he said cannot be ignored by the two sides.
