A Joint Chamber of Commerce of Iran and Finland was officially launched on Tuesday following a meeting in Tehran where the managing directors of the chamber were elected.
The two countries formerly had a Joint Committee which was chair by Gholam Hossein Jamili.
Speaking during the opening session, Mohammad Reza Karbasi, the deputy for international affairs of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA), said that in spite of the existing capacities, Iran and Finland have insignificant bilateral trade which he said amounts to just $7.5 million.
He said that the two countries trade construction and petrochemical materials, dried fruits and medicine, with technology being the main imports of Iran from Finland.
Gholam Hossein Jamili, who chaired the Iran-Finland Joint Committee, also gave a speech in the meeting, urging the need for continued relations between the chambers of commerce of both countries.
He said that technology transfer and promoting relationship will be the main agenda of the joint chamber.
Jamili expressed hope that with end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides will witness an improvement in bilateral cooperation.
Referring to an upcoming exhibition in Finland on technology and entrepreneurship sector, Jamili called on the Finland Chamber of Commerce and the country’s embassy in Iran to pave the way for participation of Iranians in this event.
Timo Vuori, the Executive Vice President of Finland Chamber of Commerce, who also had an online presence in the meeting, referred to the damages caused by COVID-19 to the Iranian society, saying his country would spare no effort to help supply Iran with the required vaccines.
He urged both governments to support the joint chamber of commerce so as to expand trade relations between economic operators of the two countries.
