Iranian Minister of Health Bahram Einollahi said on Tuesday that Iran is scheduled to import 40 million more doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the next Iranian calendar month of Mehr (Sep 23- Oct 22).

The minister said that the government will keep its promise for importing 50 million doses of vaccine by the end of the first half of the current Iranian year (Sept 22).

Therefore, the country’s total imports of COVID-19 vaccine are expected to top 90 million doses by Oct 22.

In addition to imports of vaccines, the new government has issued the necessary permits for production of five domestically-developed vaccines, the heath minister said.

Einollahi added that the government does its best to get everyone vaccinated on time.

He also said that the Health Ministry has provided a special vaccine for 17-year-olds.

Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Karim Hemmati announced on Saturday that Iran is scheduled to import some 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine soon to inoculate students against the pandemic.

Speaking during a televised speech, Hemmati said that students aged 12 -18 will be vaccinated.

He said that the decision to vaccinate students is being taken due to concerns of President Ebrahim Raisi about the health of students as the country is close to the new school year.
