President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei on Sunday urged the need for the Iranian government to help domestic production.

Addressing an ICCIMA General Meeting of Board of Representatives, Shafei called on the government to help the domestic production and reduce production costs through struggles to lift sanctions on the country, making economy more competitive, and following real privatization plans.

He said that the government should do its utmost to remove arbitrary sanctions on Iran to help ease uncertainty for making investments in the country.

If the government focuses on creating a proper business atmosphere, all the country’s economic problems will be solved, Shafei said.

Referring to the country’s GDP, he regretted that Iran’s international economic status has deteriorated over the past three years.

He said that the latest updates by World Bank puts Iran’s GDP in the year to March 2021 at $191 million, showing a 57% compared to $445 million registered in the year to March 2018.

The United States unilaterally withdrew from a multinational nuclear deal with Iran in May 2018, re-imposing tough sanctions against Tehran which created a lot of difficulty for the Iranian economy.
