Chambers of commerce of Iran and Kyrgyzstan have signed an agreement to set up a joint trade committee.
The document was signed during a webinar hosted by Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA).
President of Iran Chamber of Commerce Gholam Hossein Shafei, Vice President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic Roman Kasymov, and the ambassadors and economic activists of the two countries were present at the webinar.
Speaking during the event, the Iran Chamber chief said that the presence of the ambassadors in this webinar is indicative of both governments’ support for the private sector and efforts of high-ranking officials from both Iran and Kyrgyzstan for removal of the existing barriers on the way of bilateral relations.
Shafei regretted that Iran and Kyrgyzstan have failed to make use of the capacities for bilateral cooperation, adding that bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $18 million in 2020 which accounted for only 0.03% of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade with the world.
He also called for an increase in the number of direct flights operating between the two countries.
In the meantime, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic said that his country is a member state of World Trade Organization which he said would provide a chance for businesspersons from other countries to export more than 6,000 items to Kyrgyzstan.
Kasymov also said that Kyrgyzstan’s membership in the Eurasia Economic Union provides the country with a potential for transit between the north and the south.
He welcomed the agreement signed between the two countries for opening a joint trade committee and said the committee would help increase bilateral cooperation.
