The war in Ukraine has troubled Iran’s overseas farming in the east European country, according to the Chairman of Iran’s National Union for Agricultural Products.

Noting that some 25-30 percent of Iran’s needs for grains are provided by Ukraine and Russia, Reza Nourani was quoted by ILNA that road and maritime transportation security is the first prerequisite for expansion of international trade.

He said the Russian attack on Ukraine has impeded road and maritime transportation security so that exports from Ukraine will most probably stop within the next few days.

Nourani referred to Ukraine as one of Iran’s target countries in overseas farming and said, “we have to wait for the end of war to be able to continue with trade relations.”

He expressed hope that the war in Ukraine will come to an end in the near future.

Nourani, also a member of the Agriculture Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, said that Iranian overseas farmers grow grains in Ukraine.

Noting that Ukraine’s highly fertile land have convinced overseas farmers from different countries, including Iran, to invest in the country, he said, “we hope the war will not lead to the destruction of their investments.”
