Iran, Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah set to form joint free trade zone

In an upcoming visit to Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah by the managing director of Iran’s free trade zones, Iran and the Iraqi province are scheduled to examine the possibility of forming a joint free trade zone, according to Iran’s Consul General to Sulaymaniyah Mehdi Shoushtari.

In an upcoming visit to Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah by the managing director of Iran’s free trade zones, Iran and the Iraqi province are scheduled to examine the possibility of forming a joint free trade zone, according to Iran’s Consul General to Sulaymaniyah Mehdi Shoushtari.

Shoushtari made the remarks during a meeting between a trade delegation from Iranian Hamedan Province and Chairman of Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce Sirvan Mohamed.

Speaking during the meeting, the head of Hamedan chamber of commerce voiced readiness of the Iranian province to cooperate with Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah in different areas, including, agriculture, tourism and science-based companies.

Ali Asghar Zebardast noted that Hamedan is the first capital of Iran and one of the oldest cities of the world, noting that the historical and tourism capacities of the city can be attractive for the people of Sulaymaniyah.

Hamedan also enjoys high capacities in health tourism, Zebardast said, adding that with its hospitals and clinics, the city can render services to health tourists from Sulaymaniyah.    

He called for signing a cooperation agreement for expansion of relations between Hamedan and Sulaymaniyah and setting up joint offices of the two chambers in both Sulaymaniyah and Hamedan.  

The chairman of Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for his part, called for further expansion of economic relations with Iran, noting that bilateral relations should not be limited to trade.

Sulaymaniyah has taken major steps for industrialization, he said, expressing hope that Hamedan would play a significant role in this regard.  

He noted that Sulaymaniyah is seeking to boost ties with Sulaymaniyah in different, agricultural, food, construction and tourism areas.
