The figure shows some 0.7% decrease compared to more than the 908,647 cars produced in Iran in last year’s corresponding period.

Some 90.3% of the car produced in the mentioned period (815,548) were sedans which shows a 1.4% fall when compared to figures from the same period of the last year, the report said.

Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade Reza Fatemi Amin said three years earlier that the country would lift a ban on car imports as of mid-May.

There is an annual demand for 1.5 million cars in Iran while the domestic automakers supply only 1 million cars per annum, the minister said, noting that “demand is more than supply and the domestic carmakers have not been able to fill this gap. Therefore, we need to import”.
