Iranian private sector activists have underline the necessity of enhancement of barter trade with Russia as the country is in a war with neighboring Ukraine which have led to increasingly growing sanctions on Moscow.

A meeting was held in Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Wednesday to explore ways for keeping an active presence in the Russian market and the Eurasian market as well amid economic problems caused by the war in Ukraine.

Mohammad Reza Karbasi, the ICCIMA Deputy for International Affairs, said that the Western sanctions on Russia will continue to leave long-term effects on the global economy even if the war in Ukraine will come to an end in the near future.

Karbasi noted the new sanctions on Moscow require the enhancement of barter trade mechanism between Iran and Russia.

Also speaking during the meeting, Chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hadi Tizhoush Taban said that trade with Russia in the current situation needs further cooperation between the government and the private sector.

Noting that Iran provides Russia with access to southern countries, he said that Iran can render cost-effective shipping services to Russia in the Caspian Sea.

Tizhoush Taban also said that in order to have an active presence in the Russian and Eurasian markets, Iran would need to create stability in the domestic market.
