The pandemic-delayed Expo 2020 in the United Arab Emirates closed on Thursday (March 31) after it ran for six months since the opening ceremony on October 1, 2021.

The event was originally scheduled for October 20, 2020 – April 10, 2021. It was however postponed to a year later due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Arab Emirates.

Iran was one of the participating countries in Expo 2020 and the country’s pavilion was picked as one of eight most architecturally significant pavilions of the event.

The Expo was designed in an area of some 438 hectares two times bigger than Milan Expo.

Expo 2020 Dubai was the first World Expo ever hosted in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region and the largest event ever held in the Arab World.

Through its theme, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 sought to provide a platform to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration across its subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
