Two major Iranian automakers – Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) and Saipa Group – say they have plans to increase their output during the Persian new year which began on March 21.

Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Fatemi Amin visited IKCO and Saipa Group on Saturday as his second visit of the country’s leading automakers within a month after President Ebrahim Raisi issued an order for improving the services rendered by the automakers early in March.

During his visit to IKCO, the minister said that the company has taken good measures and has even gone beyond the president’s order.

IKCO Managing-General Mehdi Khatibi said that the company has plans for manufacturing as much as 725 sedans and some 25,000 commercial vehicles.

Khatibi also said that IKCO will halt producing Peugeot 405 and Samand within two months in line with the president’s order for removing cars with an old platform from the production line.

During the minister’s visit to Saipa Group, the company’s managing-general Mohammad-Ali Teymouri said that the automaker has plan to produce 1,500 cars a day so as to boost annual output to 650,000 cars.

The president’s order calls for an increase in domestic output of cars by 50% by the end of the year.

Fatemi Amin said in mid-March that there is an annual demand for 1.5 million cars in Iran while the domestic automakers supply only 1 million cars per annum.
