Azerbaijan Republics Ambassador to Tehran Ali Alizadeh (L) and President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei meet in Tehran, Iran June 27, 2022.

Azerbaijan Republic's Ambassador to Tehran Ali Alizadeh on Monday called on the Iranian companies to participate in the reconstruction of Karabakh region.

Speaking during a meeting in Tehran with President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei, the ambassador said that the construction of schools and hospitals in Karabakh has been left to Iran.

He referred to major common grounds between the two neighboring countries and said that President Ilham Aliyev attaches special attention to enhanced relations with Iran.

Noting that during his nine-month tenure in Tehran, he has begun an important project with the government of President Ebrahim Raeisi, the ambassador referred to Turkmenistan’s gas transfer to Azerbaijan through the Iranian soil as a significant project.

He also said that the construction of a bridge on the joint border is another project in which Azerbaijan played a key role.

The ambassador also said that his country is also considering the construction of two new bridges on the transit road of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through Iranian soil.

The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, for his part, hailed the significant growth of Azerbaijan over the past years. “I had a short visit to Azerbaijan on early days of Azerbaijan’s independence and in my recent visit to the country along with President Raeisi, this amount of change was unbelievable.”

Shafei underlined that expansion of transportation between Iran and Azerbaijan can play a key role in regional trade.

The Rasht-Astara railway in Iran has to become completed, he said, urging the need for enhancement of port and railway infrastructures between the two countries.

Shafei also called for facilitating the issuance of trade visas by both the Iranian and Azeri governments.
