Iran Chamber of Commerce chief urges D-8 presence in global value chain

President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei on Tuesday urged the need for the D-8 member states to increase their participation to the global value chain to intensify their presence in global markets.   

Shafei made the remarks while addressing a business forum of D-8 Chambers of Commerce and Industry (D-8 CCI) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Shafei, who represents Iran in the event, said that the private sectors of the Developing-8 have to engage in the value chain, common investments, common production and bilateral and multilateral cooperation of the member states as well to help the industrial and production improvement of the member countries.

He voiced the readiness and willingness of the Iranian private sector to play a significant role in the interactions of D-8 member countries.

The Iran Chamber of Commerce chief said that Iran, as a country with huge oil and gas resources and other minerals, placed on the East to West and North to South corridors which provides the country’s access to regional markets, is ready to play a significant role in this value chain and accept investment in different areas.

Shafei is accompanied by two Iranian Members of Parliament and one of the chairmen of a local Iranian chamber of commerce in his visit to Dhaka.

The meeting of the presidents of D-8 Chambers of Commerce and Industry (D-8 CCI) opened in Dhaka and will come to an end today (July 27).
