Iran registers over $8 billion of foreign trade in month to August 22

Iran traded 11.32 million tons of goods worth $8.11 billion (excluding crude oil exports) during the fifth month of the current Iranian year (July 23-Aug. 22), according to the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

Iran traded 11.32 million tons of goods worth $8.11 billion (excluding crude oil exports) during the fifth month of the current Iranian year (July 23-Aug. 22), according to the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

The figure suggested a 10.6% and 25.4% rise in tonnage and value respectively compared with the similar month of last year, 

Exports stood at 8.42 million tons worth $3.65 billion, registering an 11% and 18% year-on-year rise in weight and value respectively, Rouhollah Latifi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

China was the biggest export destination of Iranian exports during the period, as it imported 2.26 million tons worth $1.1 billion to register a 1% YOY increase in value.

It was followed by Iraq with 1.73 million tons worth $563 million (up 38% in value) and the UAE with 1.05 million worth $517 million (up 89% in value).

Imports during the period stood at 2.9 million tons worth $4.42 million, indicating a 9% and 32% growth year-on-year.

The UAE was the biggest exporter to Iran during the period with 1 million tons worth $1.2 billion to register a 26% YOY rise in value.

China with 334,00 tons worth $1.09 billion (up 52% in value) and Turkey with 180,00 tons worth $379 million (down 8% in value) followed. 

Latifi noted that more than 1 million tons of foreign goods were transited through Iran during the same period, registering a 3% YOY increase.
