Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) has taken a major step to help promote Iran’s trade with different world countries by launching an economic diplomacy secretariat.

Alireza Yavari, the ICCIMA Deputy for International Affairs, said on Sunday that the secretariat will set out the necessary strategies for trade with target countries.

Speaking in a press conference, Yavari said that the newly-formed secretariat is comprised of more than 10 working groups which defines the trade strategies based on the advantages of different countries.

He stressed that the International Department of Iran Chamber of Commerce is fully resolved to enhance the private sector’s role in further activating the economic diplomacy.

Alireza Yavari, the Deputy for International Affairs of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA), is seen at a press conference in Tehran, Iran, October 9, 2022.

Non-governmental organizations, like Iran Chamber of Commerce, can have an observer and consultative position in international bodies, Yavari said, adding that “we are seeking such a position for Iran Chamber of Commerce at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and WTO as well.”

He noted that this can serve as a good prelude for Iran’s membership in such organizations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Yavari complained about the serious existence of red tape in trade activities in Iran which he said is a major impediment to making investments in the country.

While Iran has bilateral agreements with 70 different countries for cooperation in investment partnership, none of these agreements have become implemented yet, he said.
