Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Alireza Peymanpak said on Saturday that an Iranian automaker is scheduled to launch a production line in Armenia in a bid to begin exports to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Peymanpak, who also heads the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO), did not mention the name of the automaker, but said that the Iranian automaker and an Armenian investor have signaled readiness to pursue the issue through Iranian Ministry of Industry and the Armenian Ministry of Economy.
He added that an initial agreement has been reached for launching the production line of an Iranian car in Armenia.
Presently the Armenian private sector sells Iranian cars and buys them in the country’s market, the official said.
The country has placed an order for imports of 200 cars from Iran, Peymanpak said, adding that the imports have been made in a pilot form and the figure is expected to increase.
He expressed hope that Armenia would turn into an export hub for Iranian products.
The first consignment of cars produced by major Iranian automaker IKCO, including Tara and Dena passenger cars, were sent to Armenia following a recent visit to the country by the Iranian company’s managing general.
IKCO also plans to export some products of its major subsidiaries – ISACO and Iran Khodro Diesel – to Armenia.
Armenia is considered as the gateway for Iranian products to other EAEU countries.
