Iran, Russia private sectors discuss completion of North-South Corridor

During a meeting between a Russian delegation to Iranian northern city of Rasht and Iranian businesspersons in the city, the two sides explored ways for expansion of cooperation with the focus on the completion of a strategically important International North-South Transit Corridor.

During a meeting between a Russian delegation to Iranian northern city of Rasht and Iranian businesspersons in the city, the two sides explored ways for expansion of cooperation with the focus on the completion of a strategically important International North-South Transit Corridor.

The Russian delegation headed to Rasht, the capital city of Gilan Province, after it participated in an Iran-Russia Business Forum in Tehran.

Speaking during a meeting of businesspeople from Russia and Rasht, Chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hadi Tizhoush Taban underlined the need for making use of the exemplary potentials for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.  

Noting that the two countries have widespread cooperation in energy and agricultural areas, Tizhoush Taban said that the level of trade between Iran and Russia is estimated at some $4 billion.

He also referred to different industrial capacities of Gilan Province and said that B2B meetings were scheduled to be held between the businesspersons of the two sides at the end of the general meeting.

He also touched upon the Western sanctions imposed on both Tehran and Moscow, noting that the two countries can further cooperate to minimize the impact of sanctions.

In the meantime, Russian Consul General in Rasht Andrei Vadov expressed satisfaction with growing level of trade ties between Iran and Russia in different areas.

He said that the Russian consulate general in Rasht has always been doing its best to ease the visa requirements for Iranian businesspeople and tourists for travels to Russia.

He predicted a bright future for trade cooperation of Iranian northern provinces with Russian ones.

A 120-member Russian trade delegation, headed by President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin, arrived in Tehran on November 14.

The Russian delegation the visited other Iranian cities of Rasht, Anzali and Isfahan.

The delegation is comprised of businesspersons in different areas, including transportation, food, constructional materials, petrochemical and oil products, international arbitration, and so on.

Iran and Russian traded as much as $4.63 billion worth of commodities over the Iranian last calendar year to March 20, according to an April report by Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

The two countries plan to increase bilateral trade by nearly 10 times to $40 billion.
