Iran expected to become world’s 14th-largest car manufacturer by late March

Iran, which ranked 19th among world car manufacturers last year, is expected to rise to the 14th spot by late March, according to a senior industry official.

Iran, which ranked 19th among world car manufacturers last year, is expected to rise to the 14th spot by late March, according to a senior industry official.

Director of Auto Industries Office of the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade Abdollah Tavakkoli Lahijani said on Saturday that as many as 1.05 million cars has been produced in Iran over the 10 months to January 20 showing a 30% rise YOY.

He said that the country produced a record 1.4 million of cars in the year to March 2018.

The Iranian car production was then nearly halved to some 800,000 between 2019 and 2022, the official said.

Referring to the rise in auto production this year, Tavakkoli Lahijani said that “we also managed to hit the record of monthly production this year”, adding that the country’s auto production grew to a monthly record of 127,000 in the month to January 20.

He said that with this rise in the country’s auto production, Iran is supposed to become the world’s 14th car manufacturer in the current calendar year to late March 2023.
