Iran has resumed pumping gas to neighboring Iraq after repairing operations, according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.
Mohammadreza Joulaei, the dispatching director of the National Iranian Gas Company, told IRNA that the reduction of Iran’s gas exports to Iraq over the past few days had been planned and agreed upon by the officials of both countries.
Some media outlets had earlier cited Iraqi officials about Iran’s reduction or halt of gas exports to Iraq.
Although the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity said in a statement that Iran would stop pumping gas to the country for fixing and maintenance operations for 12 days, but some foreign and even domestic media insisted that Iran intended to halt gas supplies to Iraq.
Joulaei said that cutting the flow of gas to Iraq is a completely technical issue.
He added that Iran’s gas exports to Iraq will go back to normal within the next few days.
