Iran private sector proposes forming “Drought Management National Center”

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) has proposed forming a national center to respond to a drought crisis.

Drought working group of the ICCIMA-affiliated Center for Strategic Studies on Agriculture and Water, in a letter to President Ebrahim Raeisi, has called for forming the center as a permanent institution to operate under the presidential office.  

The working group has been monitoring the national measures to tackle drought over the past years, using the viewpoints of both domestic and foreign experts in this regard.

The letter to the president, says that once established, this center will cooperate with other organizations active in the battle against drought to provide the needed plans and supervise the operations and make use of the potentials of the private sector to this end.

The Drought Management National Center will be an inclusive center to organize and lead the national drought respond before, in the midst and after the phenomenon.  

The working group has also put forward measures for the fight against drought as the private sector proposals for drought management to be included in the county’s seventh development plan.
