A latest FAO update suggests that Iran’s wheat production rose by 28% in 2022 so the country became the world’s 13th biggest producer of the crop.

Iran was the 12th wheat producer of the world in 2021 with 10.1 million tons of output.

Despite the global concerns about the consequences of the war in Ukraine on agricultural production across the world, the global wheat production grew by 2% in 2022 to 794 million tons from 778 million tons in 2021, the report said.

It also forecasted Iran’s wheat production to remain unchanged in 2023 at 13 million tons.

China, the European Union and India, were the number one to three world wheat producers in 2022 with 137.7, 134.5 and 106.8 million tons of output respectively, the FAO report said.

FAO also said that despite Russia being involved in the war in Ukraine, the country’s wheat production rose by 34% in 2022 while Ukraine’s output declined 37%.

FAO has forecasted that Russia’s wheat production will fall 19% to 83 million tons in 2023 with Ukraine’s production also expected to fall another 15% to 17 million tons.
