Iran’s transactions with Caspian states top $3.3 billion in 11 months

Iran's trade (excluding crude oil exports) with Caspian Sea littoral states stood at 5.99 million tons worth $3.34 billion during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022-Feb. 19).

The figures registered a 13.92% fall in terms of weight, but an 8.91% rise in value compared with the similar period of last year, respectively, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

Russia was Iran’s main trading partner among Caspian states with 3.36 million tons (down 21.76%) worth $1.97 billion (down 0.57%) during the period under review. It was followed by Azerbaijan with 715,780 tons (down 8.08%) worth $636.55 million (up 20.65%), Turkmenistan with 1.2 million tons (down 4.63%) worth $435.73 million (up 32.18%) and Kazakhstan with 709,016 tons (up 13.61%) worth $292.99 million (up 32.22%).

Iran’s exports exceeded 3.58 million tons worth $1.86 billion during the period, registering a 3.39% and a 24.29% rise in terms of weight and value year-on-year, respectively.

Russia was Iran’s biggest export destination with 1.27 million tons (up 22.78%) worth $672.83 million (up 24.74%), followed by Azerbaijan with 697,384 tons (down 7.99%) worth $604.51 million (up 22.91%), Turkmenistan with 1.16 million tons (down 4.13%) worth $413.35 million (up 37.96%) and Kazakhstan with 443,927 tons (down 3.39%) worth $173.72 million (up 5.08%).

Imports from the four countries under review hit 2.4 million tons worth $1.47 billion during the 11 months to register a 31.15% and 5.77% fall in weight and value, respectively.

Russia was the top exporter to Iran with 2.08 million tons (down 35.97%) worth $1.3 billion (down 9.95%). It was followed by Kazakhstan with 265,089 tons (up 61.1%) worth $119.26 million (up 111.95%), Azerbaijan with 18,396 tons (down 9.19%) worth $32.04 million (down 10.44%) and Turkmenistan with 32,020 tons (down 21.27%) worth $22.37 million (down 25.48%).

Iran’s trade with Caspian states hit 7.91 million tons worth $3.48 billion in the fiscal 2021-22, up from 6.24 million tons worth $2 billion year-on-year.
