Iran, Bulgaria urged to sign railway agreement to accelerate trade

Stoil Zlatarski, a counsellor at the Bulgarian embassy in Tehran, visited Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Friday when signing a railway agreement between Tehran and Sofia was urged as a means to give a boost to bilateral trade.

During the visit, the Bulgarian diplomat met with Niloofar Assadi, the ICCIMA caretaker of international affairs department, where the Iranian side said that the level of ties between the two countries have reached satisfactory levels despite the Western sanctions on Tehran.

With the cooperation between Iran-Bulgaria Joint Committee of Commerce and the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, different delegations were exchanged between the two countries over the past two years, Assadi said.

Noting that the 20th Iran-Bulgaria Joint Trade Commission is scheduled to be held in Tehran later this year, she called on the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to dispatch a delegation to the event.

Assadi also voiced ICCIMA’s readiness to hold a webinar to familiarize the Bulgarian and Iranian businesspeople with the trade potentials of both sides.

She referred to agriculture, transportation, tourism, energy and modern irrigation as major areas for cooperation between Iran and Bulgaria.

Assadi also called on the Bulgarian embassy in Tehran to facilitate visa requirements for Iranian businesspeople upon recommendation letters by Iran Chamber of Commerce.

The Bulgarian diplomat, for his part, said that trade exchanges between Tehran and Sofia grew by 40% over the past year.

Zlatarski said that there is potential for multiplying the level of bilateral trade.

The diplomat expressed readiness to pursue signing a railway agreement between the two countries and send a delegation to the upcoming joint trade commission in Tehran.
