Indonesian Ambassador to Tehran Ronny P. Yuliantoro on Monday urged the need for further cooperation between his country and Iran on making use of the potentials of the Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran.

The ambassador made the remarks during a visit to Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) where he met Niloofar Assadi, the ICCIMA caretaker of international affairs department.

He referred to the halt in trade relations between Iran and Indonesia due to the increased Western sanctions on Tehran and the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease, calling on Iran Chamber of Commerce to dispatch a delegation to Jakarta so as to hold B2B meetings and help restore trade ties.

Ambassador Yuliantoro also underlined the need for solving the legal hurdles of the sanctions, expansion of barter trade and further cooperation in Chabahar Port as three main factors which he believed are key to enhancement of ties between the two nations.

He noted that Chabahar Port is significant both commercially and geographically and can play as a linking bridge between Indonesia and India and Central Asia.

The ambassador said that he expected the Iran Chamber of Commerce to help the Indonesian embassy get more familiar with the Iranian market.

The Iranian side, for her part, underlined the need for the resumption of trade ties between Iran and Indonesia despite the arbitrary sanctions on Tehran, noting that the two countries can cooperate on non-sanctioned areas such as agriculture, medicine, and food.
