Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has said that Iran and Russia have begun pilot linking of their banking messaging systems and will finalize the scheme soon.

Speaking at a subsidiary panel of the 22nd International Exhibition for Equipment and Technologies for Oil and Gas Industries in Moscow on Tuesday, Jalali said that the scheme will link Iran’s Shetab banking system and Russia’s MIR interbank system.

He also referred to the resolve of Tehran and Moscow to ditch the dollar in their trade ties with other nations, and said that an upcoming visit to Tehran by the governor of the Central Bank of Russia will pave the way for the linkage of banking messengers of the two countries.

Iranian Minister of Economy Ehsan Khandouzi said last October that the integration of Iranian and Russian bank card networks was expected to be completed by early 2023.
