President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi has underlined the necessity for solving banking and transportation problems as a prerequisite to further expansion of ties with Bangladesh.
Selahvarzi made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday with Bangladeshi Ambassador to Iran Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury where they explored ways to promote bilateral trade.
He referred to the 150-million-people market of Bangladesh and Iran’s strategic market, noting that the two countries failed to make proper use of the economic potentials of each other.
He said that construction materials, minerals, agricultural, industrial and petrochemical products are the main areas of cooperation between Iran and Bangladesh.
The Iran Chamber of Commerce president also touched upon the banking and transportation problems hindering the trade exchanges between the two countries, noting that removing hurdles on the way of bilateral trade requires the determination on both governments.
Selahvarzi said that the Iran-Bangladesh Joint Committee of Commerce will be launched in the next two months, expressing hope that a mirror committee will be launched by the Bangladeshi side.
The Bangladeshi ambassador, in the meantime, congratulated the Mr. Selahvarzi for being elected as the new president of Iran Chamber of Commerce in a Sunday election.
Chowdhury hailed longstanding cultural and historical relations between the two countries, regretting that bilateral trade relations have not made that much progress.
He also promised to pursue the case of launching a Bangladesh-Iran Joint Committee of Commerce.
