Iran’s daily electricity consumption hit 73,450 MW on Sunday, registering a new record high, according to the spokesman of the country’s electricity industry.

Speaking to Iranian state television on Sunday, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said that the figure shows a 5.7% increase when compared to last year’s record high of 69,500 MW.

He said that today is the 22nd day that the country is setting records more than last year’s record high.

The official expressed hope that with the cooling of weather and more increased cooperation of the people in the coming days, the consumption figures will decline.

Iranian government announced two days of nationwide closures last Wednesday and Thursday to protect people against possible damages of unprecedented heat.
