The latest report by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) puts Iran the 18th biggest natural gas exporter of the world in 2022.
The OPEC report cited in a Saturday report of Tasnim news agency, said that Iran exported as much as 18.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2022 to rank among the world’s top 20 natural gas exporters.
It noted that Iran’s natural gas exports in 2022 registered a 2% year-on-year rise when compared to figures reported in 2021 when the country’s natural gas exports stood at 18.4 billion cubic meters.
The report added that, with the exports of 195 billion cubic meters of gas, the United States was the world’s top natural gas producer last year.
Before the start of the war in Ukraine, the Russian Federation was the largest exporter of natural gas in the world but the country’s gas exports decreased 24% in 2022, reaching 184 billion cubic meters.
