Iranian agricultural minister Mohammad Ali Nikbakht has said that the country has become self-sufficient in production of wheat and does not need it import the staple grain in the coming year.
"We are trying to continue the sustainability of self-sufficiency in wheat production so as not to face problems in unbalanced climatic conditions," Nikbakht said while speaking to reporters in Tuyserkan, in western Iran, on Tuesday,
Earlier this week, CEO of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) Saeed Rad said that purchasing of 10.3 metric tons of wheat from domestic farmers this year is a sign of government's support for domestic production.
