Production of green tea leaves in Iran’s northern Gilan and Mazandaran provinces has increased by 42% this year, according to the head of the country’s tea organization.

Habib Jahansaz put Iran’s tea production at 133,180 metric tons (mt), noting that such an increase has been unprecedented.

He added that appropriate pricing policies for green leaves by Iran's economy council – a 60% increase this year and 58% and 38% in the last two years – are among the reasons for the boosting the production of tea leaves in the country.

Providing facilities for the cultivation and the return of 2,000 hectares of tea farms to the production cycle as well as timely rains are among other reasons for the increase in green tea leaves production this year, he noted.

An earlier report suggested that Iran exported a total of 22,723 mt of tea to 23 different world countries in 2022.

Uzbekistan, Germany, the UAE, Canada, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Pakistan, and India were the main destinations for Iranian tea, according to the report.
