Iranian official says the country exports and imports electricity with all the countries with whom it shares a land border.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, the spokesman of Iran’s electricity industry, told reporters on Tuesday that Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan are three main destinations for Iranian electricity.

Asked about the possibility of electricity transfer with Qatar, the official said that the necessary studies have been carried out for electricity connection with countries with whom Iran does not share a land border.

There have been negotiations over this plan and if it becomes implemented, there is the possibility of electricity exchanges up to 1,000 MW, he noted.

The official said that Iran is also importing electricity from two neighboring countries without naming them.

He added that it is possible for Iran and Turkey to exchange electricity and the two countries can easily exchange electricity up to 400 MW.

Negotiations have been made for both exports and imports of electricity with Turkey, the official said.
