Iran’s agrifood exports to Africa hit $28 million in eight months

Iran has exported some 41,000 tons of food and agricultural products, valued at $28 million, to African states in the first eight months of the current calendar year November 22, according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.

Iran has exported some 41,000 tons of food and agricultural products, valued at $28 million, to African states in the first eight months of the current calendar year November 22, according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.

Rouhollah Latifi, the director general of Iran’s Rural Cooperatives Organization for market development affairs, said that Iran’s export of food and agricultural products to African countries from March 21 to November 22, 2023 registered an 18 percent growth compared to last year’s corresponding period.

The African continent, with a population of more than 1.3 billion, has rich natural resources and is a good and lucrative market for various Iranian goods and commodities, he emphasized.

The high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic have placed special emphasis on boosting trade and economic ties with African states, he said, adding that Iran has witnessed considerable growth in export of its products to Africa especially in the past two years.

Latifi also said that Iran’s export of products to the 55 African countries is expected to exceed $10 billion in the coming years.

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Somalia, Libya, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Algeria imported $11 million, $4.9 million, $4.1 million, $2.1 million and $1.2 million worth of products from Iran from March 21 to November 22, 2023 respectively, he added.
