Houman Azimi, the director of international transportation and TIR carnet department of Iran Chamber of Commerce, has stressed that enhancement of key regional corridors is a top agenda of this department.

Azimi made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with a high-ranking delegation from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) headed by IRU Director of TIR and Transit Tatiana Rey-Bellet.

He said that the Iran Chamber of Commerce seeks further cooperation with the IRU as well as the private and state beneficiaries as it eyes to expand provincial offices.

Rey-Bellet, for her part, highlighted the role of Iran Chamber of Commerce as Iran's TIR issuing and guaranteeing association, noting that the chamber has to make plans for risk management of international transportation companies and make capacities so as to regain its place as the world’s biggest issuer of TIR carnets.

She stressed the need for strengthening the regional corridor in the Central Asia and ECO regions, particularly the southern part of the East-West corridor, urging the Iran Chamber of Commerce to give a boost to cooperation with Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iraq.

During their three-day stay in Iran, the IRU delegation also had a meeting with senior officials from Iran’s Road maintenance and Transportation Organization.
