Iran’s new Minister of Economy Abdolnaser Hemmati has pledged that the ministry will pursue close cooperation with the country’s private sector.

He made the remarks in a monthly meeting on Monday with private sector operators, the first such meeting after President Masoud Pezeshkian took office in July 30.

The meeting, referred to as the Dialogue Council of the government and the private sector, was also participated by Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Samad Hassanzadeh and Shamseddin Hosseini, the head of the Parliament’s Economic Commission.

During his speech, the economy minister said that he will endeavor to get the Iranian economy back on track, noting that holding regular meetings of the Dialogue Council would be a big help to this end.

Expressing his opposition to the government intervention in economy, he said that government intervention would lead to unpredictability of the economy which would stop the growth of the private sector.

The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce also addressed the meeting and expressed hope that the Dialogue Council, as the biggest platform which provides direct contact between the private sector and the country’s decision makers, would play an effective role.
