Iran explores expansion of transit with Russia under TIR Convention

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), the Iranian issuer of TIR carnets, has hosted a meeting on exploring ways to expand transit with Russia under TIR Convention.

The meeting was participated by representatives from the International Road Transit Union (IRU), the Association of International Road Carriers (ASMAP), Russia’s issuer of TIR carnets, the department of TIR carnet affairs of the ICCIMA, and Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce, as well as IRU’s permanent representative in Moscow.   

During the meeting, the participants were briefed about the promotion of TIR system and its advantages for the businesspeople active in trade between Iran and Russia.

They also reviewed the current situation of transportation between Iran and Russia, the obstacles on the way of these connections and the provisions for key regional corridors.

The meeting was also focused on the facilities provided by Russia for transit under TIR convention, coordination between the IRU and the customs offices of Iran and Russia and pursuing the hurdles on the way of bilateral transportation.
