The value of Iran’s non-oil exports to Russia in the first half of the Iranian calendar year (March 20 – September 21) has seen a 12% year-on-year increase, according to a report by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
The figures published in a Sunday IRICA report also signal a 20% rise in terms of tonnage when compared to those of last year’s corresponding period.
The report said that Iran has exported some 1.3 million metric tons of goods at the worth of $494 million to Russia in the period under review, with greenhouse pepper, polystyrene, and unshelled pistachio being Iran’s top three export items to Russia, respectively accounting for 5.9%, 5.8% and 4.9% of Iran’s total exports to the country.
Astara customs in northwestern Iran was responsible for the bulk of Iran’s exports to Russia, as 32% of the Iranian goods passed through this border crossing into Russia.
According to the IRICA report, the foreign transit from Russia with 526,000 metric tons saw a 17% increase during the six months of the year, and the foreign transit to Russia with 56,000 metric tons experienced an 18% decrease in the mentioned period.
