Afshin Shabab, an aide to Iran’s Power Generation Companies Syndicate, has said that some 5 billion cubic meters of gas and 8 billion kilowatts of electricity are being annually wasted in Iran.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Shabab said that by making investments, part of this energy can return to the cycle to avoid energy imbalance.
He largely blamed the gas waste in Iran on sanctions which have prevented the country’s access to modern excavation technologies.
Shabab said that Iran has no access to high technologies in its shared fields with neighboring countries which has led to more waste of energy.
“At the time of oil extraction, we cannot optimally use the gas coming up with oil, and in addition to pollution, energy is also wasted,” he said.
Iran is also witnessing wastes of energy in the transfer sector, he noted, citing Tehran’s worn out gas network facilities.
