Managing General of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Saeed Tavakkoli has said that Iran is currently producing as much as 800 million cubic meters of natural gas.
He said that almost all the country’s gas output is consumed domestically, with only an insignificant amount being exported based on long-term contracts.
The Iranian domestic gas network includes over 40,000 kilometers of high-pressure pipelines and more than 90 compressor stations. After entering the distribution network, the gas is supplied across a wide range of urban and rural areas, with the network extending over 450,000 kilometers.
The residential, commercial, small-scale industries, and transportation sectors hold the largest share of gas consumption, accounting for about 51% of the country’s total gas usage, the official said, adding that in winter, as temperatures drop, consumption in these sectors reaches over 700 million cubic meters per day, representing approximately 85% of daily gas production.
He noted that other Iranian sources of gas consumption include power plants, major industries such as steel mills, petrochemical industries, and cement factories, as well as operational consumption in refineries and facilities.
