Iran’s government has no current plans to cut power to industries, according to Fatemeh Mohajerani, the spokesperson for the administration.
Her comments came on Tuesday in response to concerns raised by industrial leaders regarding potential energy shortages.
Iranian citizens in the capital Tehran and other cities have been experiencing rolling blackouts over the past days as the government struggles to tackle the gas supply imbalance in cold months without being forced to use mazut in power plants.
Mohajerani assured that the government is aware of the heavy toll power outages have taken on the industrial sector in recent years. "Significant data within the administration shows the immense pressure on production due to past electricity shortages," she stated.
She further clarified that, for now, there are no plans to cut electricity to industrial zones during the fall. "If the fuel supply to power plants is managed effectively, we are hopeful there will be no need for industrial power cuts during the winter either," she added.
Iranian industries were largely affected by the power outages during peak summer days as Iran’s PMI report for the calendar month of Shahrivar (August 22 – September 21, 2024) said the contraction in the economic activities was mainly driven by electricity outages.
