The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) concluded its 26th Ministerial Meeting in Tehran with a final statement emphasizing the pivotal role of natural gas in energy security, economic development, and sustainability.
The statement, issued on the last day of the event on Sunday, also addressed geopolitical tensions and their impact on global energy markets.
Chaired by Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, the meeting brought together ministers and officials from 12 member countries and several observer nations.
The final communiqué underscored solidarity among members, reaffirming the forum’s commitment to environmentally conscious gas development and collaboration with global players.
The GECF expressed grave concern over increasing geopolitical instability in the Middle East, condemning deliberate Israeli attacks on Iran and highlighting risks to energy supply chains. The forum called for adherence to international law, particularly concerning the Palestinian issue, advocating for a peaceful resolution to ensure regional stability.
Key points included the projected 34% growth in natural gas consumption by 2050, the necessity of continued investment in gas infrastructure, and the importance of innovation in emissions reduction.
The GECF also celebrated record-high gas consumption in 2023 and anticipated further growth in the coming years.
The ministers welcomed Oman as a guest participant, signaling potential future membership, and confirmed that Qatar would host the next ministerial meeting in late 2025.
