Iran exported $4.9 billion worth of agricultural and food products in the first eight months of the Iranian calendar year (March 20 – November 21), with Iraq emerging as the top destination for these exports, according to a report by Tehran Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Studies Department.
The report highlights a 33% year-on-year growth in agricultural and food exports during this period, while imports of similar goods into the country declined by 8% to $9.8 billion.
These categories accounted for 12.8% of Iran's total non-oil exports and 21.8% of total imports, indicating a notable increase in export share and a reduction in import share compared to the previous year.
Notably, five countries—namely Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Russia, and China—collectively received 63% of Iran’s total agricultural and food exports during this time. Iraq led the group, accounting for 30% of exports, followed by the UAE (11%), Pakistan (8%), Russia (7%), and China (6%).
The figures underline the strategic importance of Iraq as Iran’s primary export market for agricultural products.
