Turkey and Turkmenistan have reached an agreement to begin the flow of Turkmen natural gas to Turkey starting March 1, with the gas being transported via Iran's existing pipeline network.
The deal, which was announced by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar on Tuesday, marks a significant milestone in the energy cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement, signed between Turkey's state-owned BOTAS and Turkmenistan's Turkmengaz, aims to secure up to 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas annually for Turkey. This supply is expected to bolster Turkey's energy security, which relies on a mix of natural gas imports from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran, along with liquefied natural gas from various suppliers.
Bayraktar emphasized that this deal, which has been in the works for several years, will strengthen the strategic ties between Turkey and Turkmenistan while ensuring greater natural gas supply security for both Turkey and the broader region.
