The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture on Monday voiced support for the country’s newly introduced three-tier gasoline pricing system, saying it led to a sharp fall in fuel consumption on its first day of implementation and was carried out without disruption.

Samad Hassanzadeh said gasoline consumption dropped by about 40% on the first day after the fuel price adjustment took effect, citing official remarks by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. He described the rollout as smooth, adding that there was broad public cooperation with authorities in implementing the plan.

Hassanzadeh said the reduction in fuel use could have positive effects on traffic congestion and the environment, expressing hope that the trend would continue.
