Hadi Tizhoush Taban, chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce says the volume of trade between the two countries could more than double within two years.

“Iran-Russia trade currently stands at less than $5 billion which could easily rise to $10 billion within the next one or two years,” Tizhoush Taban said during an interview with the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce on Saturday.

While acknowledging “significant progress” in economic exchanges between Iran and Russia despite Western sanctions on both countries, he said that economic relations between the two neighbors are far below the potentials.

He referred to sanctions on payment messaging systems, like SWIFT, as a key part of the sanctions, noting that the creation of an alternative network to SWIFT could prove to be helpful.
