Iran’s tourism industry has urged authorities to pursue the recognition of force majeure conditions following recent domestic and international political developments that have severely disrupted inbound travel, a senior chamber of commerce official said.
Mostafa Mousavi, head of the tourism commission at Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, said travel warnings issued by several countries, alongside heightened external threats, have led to widespread cancellations of foreign tours and the suspension of contracts between Iranian travel agencies and overseas tour operators.
In a letter to Deputy Tourism Minister Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpei, Mousavi warned that the absence of an official force majeure declaration has left agencies exposed to heavy financial losses, contractual penalties and possible international legal disputes, raising the risk of bankruptcies and an exit of private firms from the tourism market.
