Iran and Iraq has officially begun the construction of a long-awaited shalamcheh-Basra railroad.
Iran and Iraq have agreed to continue their bilateral cooperation to establish joint industrial zones and complete the Shalamcheh-Basra railway.
Acceleration of Basra-Shalamcheh railway project, joining Iran to Iraq, was one of the main agendas of a Sunday meeting between Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
The partnership deal means Iran starts the construction of the railroad that will pass over border river Arvand. Tehran says it will take 2 years to complete the project.
