Iran has not ordered the border customs to ban the exports of four agricultural products, according to the spokesman of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Ruhollah Latifi.

The war in Ukraine and the shortage of some agricultural products in the global market has urged the neighboring countries to slash tariffs on their imports of agricultural products which has led to a flow of Iranian products to the regional markets and a price hike inside the country.

Deputy Agriculture Minister for Commercial Growth Affairs Abbas Asgarzadeh sent a letter to IRICA two days earlier calling for imposition of a ban on exports of tomato, potato, eggplant and onion.

The letter by the Ministry of Agriculture aimed to regulate and protect the domestic market.

The IRICA spokesman however said that the Ministry of Agriculture has changed its decision about imposing the ban following expert and technical discussions.

Latifi said that the Ministry may impose tariffs on exports of the mentioned products instead.
